When enrolling in classes, students should check the final exam schedule to avoid having exam time conflicts or multiple final exams on the same day. In cases when this is unavoidable, students may ask instructors for a make-up exam on a different day, but whether to make this arrangement is entirely at the discretion of the instructor. Students should not wait until the end of the semester to discuss final exam conflicts with the instructor.
For undergraduate courses, final assessments that are not scheduled during the regular Final Exam Week cannot be required to be completed or turned in during the regular semester’s period of formal instruction nor during the Reading/Review/Recitation (RRR) period. Final performances and presentations may be scheduled under certain circumstances before or during RRR week, but instructors are encouraged to use the RRR week as much as possible for synthesis, review, and revision of papers or projects for final student assessment. Refer to RRR Week Guidelines for more information.
Review regulations for final exams in the Handbook of the Committee on Courses of Instruction.
Final examination groups are based on the day and time a class is offered and are the default for undergraduate classes. Common final examination groups are exceptions where the final exam is NOT based on the day and time a class is offered. Examples are foreign languages classes with multiple sections in the same exam group or specific courses approved by COCI to be permanently assigned to a dedicated exam group for the same reason (e.g. Chemistry 1A-1B, 3A-3B, 4A-4B or Economics 1, 10).
Exam schedules can be found on the Office of the Registrar’s website.

Deadlines for Final Exam Changes
The deadline to submit a request to COCI for a permanent final examination exemption or a permanent reinstatement of a final exam is at least two weeks before the start of instruction. Requests must be received (submitted and approved by department reviewers) in the online Course Management System (CMS). To request a change, course contacts should modify the final exam status on the Credit page. Changes effective in a current term will only be considered by COCI under exceptional circumstances. A strong justification must be provided in CMS if the request is being submitted after the effective term has started. All proposals for changes must be submitted to the Senate in CMS at least one week for the for upcoming COCI meeting.
