Tele-Bears Retiring

 

Goodbye, Tele-BEARS!

 

This is a momentous time for UC Berkeley’s student technology systems. After more than three decades as Berkeley’s enrollment system of record, we are saying goodbye to Tele-BEARS.*

Before Tele-BEARS, students had to fill out "punch cards" and line up to register in person. Next, Berkeley replaced paper registration with touch-tone telephone technology. In 1996, Tele-BEARS made another technological leap when it moved to the web. It has since processed millions of class enrollments online. However, it has remained mostly unchanged since its online migration more than three decades ago. For years, Tele-BEARS has been a source of great frustration for thousands of Berkeley students. This spring, thanks to the Student Information Systems (SIS) project, that is about to change.

Beginning with fall semester 2016 registration*, Tele-BEARS will be going away and instead, students will access all of their enrollment needs in one streamlined place: CalCentral. This is an exciting change that will impact all students and thousands of faculty and staff.
